Fourth Annual Abominable Snow Jam Wraps Up with Slopestyle

The sunny skies were back again at Mt. Hood for the final day of the 2007 Abominable Snow Jam. The slopestyle course at Timberline was the best yet at the ASJ event with some good rail setups and three jumps that got progressively larger. The rail section started off with a handrail, then a flat-down rail, next was an option of either a flat-down or an up-flat-down that rolled into a steep down rail. The jumps were perfectly shaped and started off with a 45-footer, the second was 55-feet and the last was the largest measuring 65-feet. The crowd was relaxing on the rocks in the hot summer sun at the top of the slopestyle course for a good overview of all the features. With the Volvo C30, two Harley-Davidson Nightsters and plenty of cash up for grabs, the riders were really getting after it. Like yesterday’s halfpipe event, the slopestyle competition was a five-star TTR World Tour event, so in addition to all the cash and prizes, riders were able to earn points toward the 07/08 TTR season.

On the women’s side, the standouts were definitely Erin Comstock, Hana Beaman, Megan Ginter and Marie-France Roy. Marie-France was going for it on the jumps and was awarded best trick and a new Sony HDV cam for her frontside 720 truck driver. Megan was killing it on the course starting things off with a frontside 50-50 on the first rail, a 50-50 gapping over the down on the second rail and 50-50s on the last two rails. On the jump line she was all about style with a backside 360, a lofty backside 180 and finished it all up with a switch backside 180 to take third place. Hana was riding strong with a frontside 50-50 on the first rail, a 50-50 nose press on the second and 50-50s on the last two rails. On the jumps Hana threw backside 360s on the first two hits and finished up with a nice backside 180 to take the second spot. Erin Comstock claimed the top spot and $5,000 with 50-50s on all the rails, a large frontside 540 on the first jump, a switch backside 180 on the second jump and ended with a a backside 180 on the last hit.

For the men, Torstein Horgmo, Chas Guldemond and Dan Brisse rose above the rest of the pack with some super clean runs. Dan Brisse was killing the rails with a front boardslide 270 out, a switch 50-50 and switch frontside lipslide to 270 out on the rails and threw a switch backside 900, a backside 900 and ended with a Cab 1080 to grab third place. Chas Guldemond started his run with a half Cab 50-50, a backside 270 to boardslide, and a gap to nose press. On the jumps he had a rodeo 540 on the first hit, a Cab 900 on the second and a huge backside 1260 on the last hit to claim second place. Scotty Lago threw a gigantic rodeo 540 of his own on the second hit in the jump line to claim the best trick award.

After placing first in quarterpipe earlier in the week, Torstein Horgmo stepped it up once again with a Cab 270 to boardslide to fakie on the first rail, a switch half Cab to nose press on the flat-down rail, a 50-50 to 360 out and a frontside boardslide on the down rail. On the jumps he threw down a nice frontside 1080 into a backside 900 and finished up with a Cab 900 to land him in the top spot once again. Not only did he grab the $10,000 for first place, but with his combined scores through the week he was crowned overall champion of the fourth annual Abominable Snow Jam and drove home the Volvo C30.

With the competition wrapping up, Hana Beaman and Scotty Lago were awarded the Harley-Davidson Inspired Ride and will take home brand new Harley-Davidson 1200N Nightster motorcycles for their stylish performances throughout the week. It was another great event for 2007 with perfect weather and top notch riding at Mt. Hood. A big thanks goes out to all the riders and everyone that came out to Hood for making the ASJ such a fun summertime event.
